Mission:

Prince George’s African American Museum and Cultural Center at North Brentwood creates opportunities for learning about, celebrating and increasing the awareness of the historical, social, cultural and artistic contributions made by African Americans and people of African descent and heritage to the County. 

Vision:

Prince George’s African American Museum and Cultural Center at North Brentwood will benefit Prince George’s County as:

• A leading exhibition based historical and cultural institution in the Prince George’s County Gateway Arts District;
• A major tourist destination;
• A clearinghouse for African American cultural and civic activities;
• A world class provider of African American history and culture in technologically advanced and user friendly formats;
• A leader in the exploration of the intersection of American, African and Caribbean cultures and community life;
• An innovative interpreter of contemporary Black art;
• An accessible and affordable venue for the presentation of diverse forms of performing arts from throughout the African Diaspora;  
• A resource for leadership and inspiration in the Prince George’s County Gateway Arts District;
• A marketplace for original works created by the region’s Black artists;
• A funding source for commissioning new works by County visual and performing artists;
• A high quality venue for community, organizational, and family events and celebrations;
• A collaborator with government, civic, educational and social organizations;
• A partner with similar museums in the state, region and nation.
