I am so pleased that The Prince George’s African American
Museum and Cultural Center is at long last becoming a reality. I must acknowledge the Friends of North Brentwood and North
Brentwood Historical Society. Their efforts to document the stories of the family and community life in North Brentwood gave
birth to the idea of a museum with two projects, Footsteps from North Brentwood and Minding Our Own Business. The support of our County Executive and
County Council has allowed us to begin to think about ways in which we can insure that the youth of the County can learn about
the contributions their forefathers and foremothers made to society. It is my hope that the museum and cultural center will
also provide them the opportunity to tell their stories in their own words and styles. I truly believe that generations can
learn from one another.
At the Prince George’s African American Museum and Cultural
Center at North Brentwood we will use the past to illuminate the present and to
help us prepare for the future.
I
hope you will support our efforts.
Sincerely,
LILLIAN K. BEVERLY
