In Memoriam: Dr. Walter L. Dozier

Honoring the Life and Service of
Dr. Walter L. Dozier, Public Information & Government Relations Officer

December 20, 2011

Dr. Walter DozierWalter L. Dozier spent more than 10 years researching and writing about education reform issues and worked as the education liaison for Prince George’s County government for six years. He was responsible for planning and coordinating all executive branch education outreach. He held a doctorate in Applied Anthropology from the University of South Florida. His dissertation research focused on gender, sports and media.

Dr. Walter Dozier was a multi talented professional. The driving force in his life was how to successfully educate children of color and children of poverty. In that realm, he not only served as County liaison for the highly effective Scholar Dollar program but he also mentored the children in his Capital Heights community of Heritage Knolls. He was also a journalist, a world traveler, amateur photographer and a fluent speaker of French. He truly loved working with the Prince George’s African American Museum and Cultural Center (PGAAMCC) as the one that helped us to proudly tell our story to the media and as the one to keep our elected officials abreast of the wonderful work being done at the Museum. He chronicled our experiences and programs and created the very popular PGAAMCC Newsletter. But most of all, he was a true friend to the community and to those of us who had the privilege of working with him on a daily basis. We will sorely miss our friend, colleague, and brother.
